All your efforts in building rapport can help you advance your career. To do this, you need to create a positive image to your network. Here’s a process on how you can do this:

Survey what people think about you

People’s overall impression of your personality will affect your chances of improving your career. You could do a general survey of the people you know about how the general public views your professional persona. This will help you point out some bad qualities that people think you have. If you have a bad reputation before reading this book, getting a general survey of people’s impression of you will help you create a strategy to rehabilitate your image.

List some key characteristics that you want to be associated with

After learning about how people think of you, you need to identify some key characteristics that you need to embody to be able to advance your career. Some common characteristics that higher positions require are assertiveness, a goal-driven attitude, punctuality and leadership.

Start showing these characteristics

When you have identified the characteristics that will improve your chances for career advancement, you need to start showing them. Start with radical changes like beginning to take leadership roles or motivating your co-workers and the people who are in your team. Make these changes a part of your office persona.

Step 2: Device a strategy on how to remain in contact with them
